What legacy you want to leave behind?

Surely we leave something behind when we die whether it is good or bad, significant or insignificant.

What is more if we have people who look up to us for guidance on how to live life especially our own children or the generation of young people who follow us.

Imagine that...

I used to think whatever is the circumstances it is alright as long as God is with us, we will get through it.

Then it dawned on me that there are 2 kind of circumstances. One within your control and another is beyond your control.

For circumstances within your control, you are accountable for it.
For circumstances beyond your control, you learn to live in peace with it.

I was once told by someone that it is ok for children to grow up in a not complete family. For example what if one of the parent or both die in an accident. Their children still grow up alright. They have God and God will take care of them. It is not a complete family unit and yet they will be fine as long as they trust God.

I thought a long time about this... I know it is a wrong statement but I cannot pin point where is the issue until I learn about legacy.

I was reminded of a friend's death. He died to save another man. He had a wife and two very young children. I thought how would his children grow up? Will they be alright? How will his wife cope with life without him?

Then I understood especially after hearing his wife speak on the anniversary of his death. She said "My husband believed... and he had put his life into..."

Wow. What a legacy he left behind for his wife and his children. They are in a circumstance beyond their control and they not only live in peace with it, but in faith and passion in what he believed in. His children will grow up richly bless because of their father's sacrifice for another man. They will live in favour with God. Yes! They will be blessed.

Compared that with the above statement from a man who choose to walk out from his marriage...

I learned that circumstances within your control, you are accountable for it. The choice you make will have the consequences and everyone who loves you will bear the consequences.

God said it so clearly in the book of Malachi and yet...

I too believe God is Just, Merciful and Faithful. For the man's children, God will care for them and protect them against the consequences of their father because He is faithful even when we are faithless. But woe to the one who cause such circumstances to come through...

What a legacy? How would you want to leave it for others especially your own?

When we said we believe God is Able and Nothing is impossible with God and yet choose not to walk in that faith... how would our children believe us?

Instead of focusing on God and what is in God's heart, we focus on what we can and cannot do from our own hearts...

We need to learn to walk our faith even the seen world does not seems to improve because what matter is the unseen spirit world for God is Spirit.

My pastor said it so right. Start Strong, Finish Well...

Remember to finish well. At the end of the day, it is not this life that matter but the eternity life with God.

Learn to put God above self.
